Ironman race is held yearly and requires more than endurance. It is a true test of your mental and physical state. You cannot just give up on this exhausting marathon. However, it is easy to beat ironman with just a few quick tips.

What is Ironman Triathlon?

Ironman race is a 2.4 miles swim with a 112 mile cycling track followed by a 26.2 miles marathon. It takes perfect coordination of muscles and stamina to beat this race.

Training across all spheres

Ironman is not just about running or cycling. It is about swimming as well. Most competitors forget the swim part and focus it really late in their training. However, by getting the swimming in early, you get to build your lung muscles and focus on fatigue due to buoyancy. It can be very easy to imagine that swimming, cycling and running is doable. However, the exertion it takes on your muscles is tremendous.

Time Commitment

There is no set schedule that you need to follow for ironman triathlon. Francisco Cortes recommends taking stock of your personal ambitions and needs to understand the effort you need to put in. However, even a minimalist training will require efforts from your side. You will have to put in at least 12 to 16 hours to qualify.

This translates into 2 hours a day for six days a week with a rest day in between. Most ironman contenders are with jobs and they claim it is easy enough to manage both with a little bit of crazy dedication.


It goes without saying that you need to have a flexible schedule no matter what. As a full time worker it can get very difficult for you to schedule your workout on fixed times. There can be an important presentation or a report that needs you to work overtime.

A low-carb, high protein diet is the best way to get all your nutrients in one place. Make sure that you understand your vitamin needs, amino acids and other minerals.
